| Recently, concerns
about candle wicks containing lead have been receiving attention.
As responsible leaders in the candle industry, Northern Lights
Candles welcomes the opportunity to respond.
Lead-reinforced
wicking has never been a part of any candle manufactured by
Northern Lights Candles. We pride ourselves in keeping the
environmental concerns at the forefront of all of our manufacturing
and production processes. As candlemakers and candle lovers,
we share your concern and fully understand the potential threats
of lead-core wicks. We have been our own best consumer advocate
by making only the safest products for our valued customers.
Northern Lights
Candles firmly assures you there is no lead-core in any of
our wicks. If a wick requires reinforcement, we work only
with wicking that has a thin strand of pure Zinc wire through
the center. Northern Lights Candles makes an educated and
conscious decision to use Zinc-core wicking because Zinc has
proven to be a safe material, which poses no threat to consumers
or the environment.
Eliminate any
hazard of lead emission by burning only candles without lead-core
wicks, and by always burning candles according to manufacturer
instructions. Perform a simple test to check for lead content
in any candle wick; simply cut about 1/4 inch of the wick
and expose wire which runs through the center - make sure
that it has no burned/blackened areas. Rub the piece of wire
against a sheet of white paper. Lead wire (and metallic alloys
contain lead) will leave a heavy, distinct mark on the paper,
while Zinc will not.
We thank
you for inquiring about lead-core wicks. Northern Lights Candles
encourages you to continue to be watchful consumers and urges
you to become educated consumers. Please do not hesitate to
