The Making of Elphia

Elphia is magical princess who lives on the mountain in the land of Azalon. She and her sisters, along with all the other magical, mystical characters of the Azalon collection are individually handscultured using the process illusttrated below.

The process of creating handsculptured candles is exclusive to Northern Lights Candles and begins when our special blend of wax is poured into round pans, then hand colored, forming beautiful discs of wax. No two color patterns are ever alike, and the swirled colors help give each candle its unique look. The finished wax discs are placed in a warm water bath until soft and pliable, then removed, cut, and shaped completely by hand.
Our skilled candlemakers work with the wax, bending, stretching and pulling it until reaching the candle's correct length and size.
The wax is then shaped by hand, forming the flowing folds of Elphia's robe and colorful hat. It will be permanently fixed into position after all the folds are set.
Next, Elphia's face, which is made of hand painted resin, is positioned and "beaded" to fix it firmly.
All the details, arms, hands, glitter-dusted crown, rhinestone buttons, and star topped wand are added. Then the candlemaker examines the candle carefully making all final adjustments to her stance, the angle of her head, and the position of her hands.
Finally, the completed candle is placed in a bath of cool water before being torched to a silky smooth finish and hand polished to perfection. The candle is then tagged and signed by the artist who made it. Because each candle is made individually by hand, no two are ever exactly alike.
